Guest Column: 10 Financial Tasks to Wrap Up 2020

January 4, 2021 by Marcia Mantell

To close out the unusual year we’ve just had, I wrote a guest article for Retirement Daily on The Street. I covered 10 financial tasks we can all wrap up after the holidays. With such a complex financial system, it’s important to take some time to look under the hood at each account you own. And, help prepare for the upcoming tax season.

None of these account reviews takes a lot of time, individually. But, if you try to do them all at once, it can seem overwhelming.

Much like wrapping gifts, you can either wrap as you buy and it’s not so painful. Or, you can wrap all at once between the moans and groans. Either way, you’re the one wrapping the gifts. It’s just that one option tends to be more painful!

Also included in this article is a fun conversation on video. (The video is at the top of the page…you’ll have to watch an ad first.) I talked to editor Bob Powell about these 10 financial tasks to wrap up. And, there might be some trash talk about my beloved University of Minnesota golden gopher football team! Make sure to watch.

What’s Cookin’?

If your kitchen is anything like mine, it’s the place everyone gathers to talk about their day, share special moments, and ask important questions. And to see what’s cooking.

For me, there is a strong connection between preparing meals and planning retirement. Both need certain ingredients, recipes to follow, and getting the timing just right.

My motto to live by: If you can make a lasagna, you can create a plan for retirement.

Look for an invitation to join me at my kitchen table where retirement is always on the menu.

More coming soon…
