Medicare: You’ve Got to be Kidding Me!
For most people reaching age 65, Medicare is quite a shock. They thought Medicare was free and that they would save a lot of money on health insurance when they retired.
Unfortunately, that is far from reality. Medicare is complicated—to start, there are 4 parts to enroll in.
The timing is tricky—many people don’t need to enroll around their 65th birthday, but some do.
The costs are increasing dramatically—there are monthly premiums, unexpected prescription drug costs, and significant out-of-pocket expenses.
But Medicare is the only game in town once you are 65 or older AND no longer receiving health insurance from a large employer. So, learning how to play this part of the retirement game successfully is critically important.
The posts in this Medicare section will help you understand the various parts of Medicare and how it works. Importantly, this is also where you’ll find the annual updates to Part B premiums and the rules and changes for Part D plans.
I encourage you to come back often. Medicare laws, rules, and regulations are continually changing. This information will help you keep up to date.
