How Boomers Are Reshaping and Redefining "Retirement"

8 Insights into Retirement: A Silver Lining to 8 Months of COVID

I hit on an idea I wanted to explore for a recent article I wrote for Retirement Daily at The Street.  It’s been a long 8 months of COVID. So much changed so abruptly, and every person has been affected in some way, shape, or form.  But, for many of us in our mid-50s and beyond, something else is happening.  What we hear and see on the nightly news is not what we are experiencing.  Instead, we’re getting some real, clear insights into retirement.  A preview of sorts. A crystal ball into our future days.

Getting Insights into Retirement from Friends

But, was I the only person thinking this is a rather interesting opportunity?  After all, most of us Baby Boomers aren’t juggling children and careers. So, we’re not dealing with the day-to-day challenges of figuring out where our kids will be. Many of us are working from home now, so commuting dropped from hours per week to less than 10 minutes per week. In an most unexpected way, this extended time at home is giving us a surprising silver lining. A look into retirement. I wondered what were others in my age group were thinking?  So, I called around to friends and family and asked about their experiences.

Their insights and experiences are captured in my article, 8 Months of COVID; 8 Insights into Retirement.  You’ll get some fun and interesting insights into retirement from these folks.

Never before has an entire section of the population, over 40 million of us, been able to experiment with the realities of retirement.  We agree that this whole pandemic situation is difficult and depressing.  However, there is something to getting a first hand look at what it means when you have time on your hands.  A lot of time. Many of us now have quite a view into life when we have no office to go to. And, nowhere we really have to be.

Take a read and let me know your insights into retirement.  What will you really be doing with all that time on your hands?

What’s Cookin’?

If your kitchen is anything like mine, it’s the place everyone gathers to talk about their day, share special moments, and ask important questions. And to see what’s cooking.

There’s a strong connection between preparing meals and planning retirement. Both need certain ingredients, recipes to follow, and timing that’s just right.

My motto to live by: "If you can make a lasagna, you can create a retirement plan."

In the "Marcia’s Retirement Kitchen" section, you’ll find fun ways to think about your retirement and get some of my favorite recipes. Just for fun!
