Key Boomer Retirement Question: “How do you want to live?”

April 16, 2014 by Marcia Mantell

Meeting new people and hearing their retirement stories is always so interesting.  I took a trip to Minneapolis during one of the coldest weather spells in decades.  It was a balmy negative 12 when I left the hotel to meet a financial advisor who is also a health savings account expert.  Eric and I had worked together on a project but had never met in … [Read more...] about Key Boomer Retirement Question: “How do you want to live?”

For Some, Retirement Is Simply the Luxury of Time

March 14, 2013 by Marcia Mantell

We recently attended a fundraising dinner event for a local charity. It was wonderful to see a big turnout from our small town. As I looked around the room, I noticed a few young people – in their 20s. But mostly, the faces belonged to Boomers and residents well into their 70s and 80s. I didn't know it yet, but I was about to hear how it's important to remember retirement is … [Read more...] about For Some, Retirement Is Simply the Luxury of Time

Who Retires to Fairbanks, Alaska?

April 30, 2012 by Marcia Mantell

“Subarctic” is how they describe the weather in Fairbanks, Alaska. Average winter lows range from -15°F to -25 F. At the winter solstice, there are 3 hours and 43 minutes of direct sunlight. Thankfully, at the summer solstice, there are 21 hours and 49 minutes of direct sun. The second largest city in Alaska, Fairbanks is up north – way up north. It’s located in the “interior” … [Read more...] about Who Retires to Fairbanks, Alaska?

A 1959 T-Bird and a Life-long Work Ethic

April 25, 2011 by Marcia Mantell

Today, at age 64, Peter is a car salesman. He’s not your typical car salesman. Rather, he talks directly to you, asks what kind of vehicle you are looking for, and asks about your budget. And then, he actually listens to what you’ve said and helps you find the best car option for your situation. No judging, just respect. A rare find indeed. Something like a 1959 T-bird, you … [Read more...] about A 1959 T-Bird and a Life-long Work Ethic

The Pilot and His Wife

April 8, 2011 by Marcia Mantell

Today is opening day at Fenway Park for the Boston Red Sox. While I am not much of a baseball fan, I do love the history and tradition that Fenway Park represents. You can just imagine all of the memories made at a storied park like Fenway. My memory of the park is a bit unusual. Different from what most may think about when watching the boys of summer. Here's where I met the … [Read more...] about The Pilot and His Wife

Marcia's Retirement Kitchen

What’s Cookin’?

If your kitchen is anything like mine, it’s the place everyone gathers to talk about their day, share special moments, and ask important questions. And to see what’s cooking.

For me, there is a strong connection between preparing meals and planning retirement. Both need certain ingredients, recipes to follow, and getting the timing just right.

My motto to live by: If you can make a lasagna, you can create a plan for retirement.

Look for an invitation to join me at my kitchen table where retirement is always on the menu.

More coming soon…
