In this guest contributor article for TheStreet.com, Marcia interviewed two women in their early 50s who faced the decision whether to “retire” when offered an early exit package.  How did they decide what to do?  Read the full article on TheStreet.com. … [Read more...] about Headline: What To Do If You’re Looking At Early Retirement

“You can retire early if you are willing to give up a few things”

August 14, 2014 by Marcia Mantell

I got an unexpected basket of good advice on a recent airplane trip.  Traveling back home on a puddle-jumper from Virginia, the seats were even closer together than on the regular uncomfortable coach seats.  It was a cozy setting to get to know your neighbor.  That’s where I met Doug, an older gentleman who patiently waited while I got situated in my window seat.  He asked if I … [Read more...] about “You can retire early if you are willing to give up a few things”

Loving Retirement: “How did I ever have time to work?”

November 13, 2013 by Marcia Mantell

With all of the talk about how Baby Boomers are not going to be financially able to retire, it was refreshing to meet Jane. She's a younger baby boomer with a fresh twist on retirement. Jane has a very different perspective on the whole “retirement” thing.  She is just loving retirement - every minute of it, in fact. Jane's Career As a public high school teacher for 35 … [Read more...] about Loving Retirement: “How did I ever have time to work?”

“I’m winning the lottery so I can retire early!”

October 23, 2012 by Marcia Mantell

Sometimes you meet the most interesting people when you least expect it. A utility line was pulled out of the side of my house and the cable company came over to repair it. He happened to mention that he … [Read more...] about “I’m winning the lottery so I can retire early!”

The Pilot and His Wife

April 8, 2011 by Marcia Mantell

Today is opening day at Fenway Park for the Boston Red Sox. While I am not much of a baseball fan, I do love the history and tradition that Fenway Park represents. You can just imagine all of the memories made at a storied park like Fenway. My memory of the park is a bit unusual. Different from what most may think about when watching the boys of summer. Here's where I met the … [Read more...] about The Pilot and His Wife

Marcia's Retirement Kitchen

What’s Cookin’?

If your kitchen is anything like mine, it’s the place everyone gathers to talk about their day, share special moments, and ask important questions. And to see what’s cooking.

For me, there is a strong connection between preparing meals and planning retirement. Both need certain ingredients, recipes to follow, and getting the timing just right.

My motto to live by: If you can make a lasagna, you can create a plan for retirement.

Look for an invitation to join me at my kitchen table where retirement is always on the menu.

More coming soon…
